In School, after school services for children with visual impairment to bring them on par with typical children.

Children amply use their senses to observe the visual elements around them: in school, and  elsewhere, to perceive, to learn as well as to interact with their environment. Since the resources in these environments are mostly visual in nature, children with visual impairment are under severe constraint to learn using senses other than vision. They require specialized skills to learn the regular school curriculum as well as to adapt to the typical school environment. Early and timely intervention can help enable the children with visual impairment to acquire and master these skills.

Direct Teaching:

We support inclusive education and encourage children with visual impairment to learn alongside their sighted peers. To achieve this, we work directly with children, providing services within their school environment. We also provide off-school learning opportunities wherever required. The areas covered are:

Consultation with Schools:

We consult with schools to provide support to the school team working with students who are visually impaired. We equip the teachers with skills to support the learning needs of children with visual impairment through training programs and workshops. Our services include:

• Conducting workshops and training programs:
  • Information about visual impairment and its educational implications
  • Awareness workshops for teachers, classmates, and support staff in school
  • Instruction in reading and writing Braille
  • Teaching mathematical concepts
  • Making science accessible
  • Orientation and mobility training
• Collaborative teaching when required
• Assessment and Advice on curriculum requirements
• Advice on making and modifying materials for accessibility
• Production of adapted learning materials including Braille and other tactile materials
• Transcribing Braille to print

Guidance for Parents:

We believe that with little support and timely guidance, parents get the best out of their children. In many cases, parents have to fill in the role of educators in the absence of trained educators in the school.

We partner with parents in imparting skills required for children with visual impairment to become independent adults.
