Vision plays an important role in the early development and learning of a child, the absence of which leads to many developmental delays/gaps. The early intervention program attempts to fill these gaps through multi-sensory approaches. This is usually done in collaboration with parents.
Some aspects that are covered here are:
Meeting developmental milestones
Concept development
Fine and gross motor development
SCHOOL READINESS (3 TO 6 YEARS)
We encourage children to get into mainstream schools as much as possible because inclusion must start early-on. However, the best possible approach is taken based on the need of the child and the degree of disability.
The following are covered here:
Learning media assessment
Pre-braille skills
Braille
Large print reading and writing (for those with usable vision for reading)
Age appropriate self-help skills
Social skills
ONGOING LEARNING SUPPORT (6 YEARS AND ABOVE)
Ideally by this time the child should be going to school regularly. For those going to mainstream schools, teaching approaches may be visual, not completely accessible to the children. Mainly in-school/after-school support is offered as services.
